The Plugin Revolution, by Dan Austin

A Modern Introduction to the World Wide Web

The Meta-Meta Page. There's been a lot of interest in the newsgroups about the use of META tags, e.g. for presenting additional but user-invisible information to certain search engines. I have 3 pages relevant to this topic and for a while I posted all 3 in answer to such questions. Then I had the inspiration (finally) to create a single page listing those 3 and other relevant resources, so that I'd only have to post one URL.. Then I thought of spicing up the page with more about the meta idea in general - i.e. a level that is one step removed or higher than the original subject matter, e.g. as in metaphysics, or metalanguage (like SGML or BNF). So, this page is a collection of meta-pages. No, I am not going to do a meta meta meta page. The CyberCosm is derived from a couple of web sites I created while at NASA's High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center. When I left it seemed nobody would continue to maintain them and so they let me take them with me. StarChild was originally a demonstration prototype I hacked up for a proposal to NASA, for a K-12 initiative. The proposal, competing against several hundred others, failed; but StarChild somehow became known to the outside world even though we made no attempts to publicise it. The NASA copy won an Iway 500 award. Suns'n'Roses: The Web of Time explores Astronomy, Cyberspace, and Metaphysics.
